California - as created by Paul Ryan
Will it come back to haunt him?

New York Times -- May 6, 2016
Ryan-Trump Breach May Be Beyond Repair
To many Republicans, Speaker Paul D. Ryan's proclamation on Thursday that he was not prepared to support Donald J. Trump seemed to be an opening bid. In truth, it was more like the final word.
Although party leaders furiously brokered a meeting between the two men at the Capitol next Thursday, it is likely that only substantial changes in Mr. Trump's language and tenor, not just minor calibrations on policy positions, will be needed to bring Mr. Ryan to his camp.

The resignation of Paul Ryan?
David Frum: Paul Ryan As Speaker Will 'Carry The Day For Obama Immigration Plans'
As Bloomberg's John Heilemann reported in 1996, “[Ryan's] ties to the pro-immigration mafia ran deep. A protégé of [Cesar] Conda and an ally of [Rick] Swartz [founder of the pro-amnesty National Immigration Forum], Ryan was the staffer who had aided Jack Kemp and William Bennett in their crusade against [California's] Proposition 187.”
In 2013, Ryan worked “every day” to pass Obama's mass-amnesty bill for all of America's illegal immigrant population, said pro-amnesty Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).
When Donald Trump visits California --- especially as the primary gets close --- Mexicans will know that California Republicans will vote to put him over the top for the presidential nomination. They will not be happy. After all, California is a Hispanic state --- not European any longer. Trump represents a real threat to Mexico's plan to retake California --- and the rest of Aztlan --- and they are not going to stand by and let that happen without a fight.
As that fight unfolds, the media will be forced to report what is going on - and how California got this way. If told honestly, the story must point to the role Paul Ryan played in the killing of Proposition 187 --- the voter-passed measure that would have all but stopped illegal immigration into California.
Learning the truth, Americans - who cheered when Trump said he is gong to build a wall - may begin to call for the resignation of Paul Ryan.
