AP FACT CHECK: Trump Says Clinton Favors a Border Wall
DONALD TRUMP: "Hillary Clinton wanted the (border) wall. Hillary Clinton fought for the wall in 2006 or thereabouts. Now, she never gets anything done, so naturally it wasn't built."
THE FACTS: Almost, but not quite. As a senator from New York, Clinton did support the 2006 Secure Fence Act, which authorized the construction of hundreds of miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border.
But it was built. Nearly 700 miles of fencing was put in place during President George W. Bush's second term and the beginning of President Barack Obama's first term.
The fencing is placed largely in urban areas along the nearly 2,000-mile frontier. It is not the type of solid wall that Trump has pledged to construct at Mexico's expense. The fence has miles-long gaps and gates built in to allow landowners access to their property on the south side of the fencing. Immigrants have been known to go over and around the fence.

Obama Wall
The Secure Fence Act of 2006 called for the construction of 700 miles of double-layered fence at specific locations.
As reported in the Christian Science Monitor yesterday, 36 miles of double fencing was built - but most of the fencing, 317 miles, was single fencing, while 300 miles was anti-vehicle structures. The AP is wrong, 700 miles of the fence Hillary voted for was never "put in place". (See photos of the fence here)
AP says, "gates built in to allow landowners access to their property on the south." Many of these gates were never installed.
Clinton and Obama both voted for the Secure Fence Act. Trump said "....she never gets anything done, so naturally it wasn't built".
As we have long argued, neither Obama nor Hillary --- or Bush --- ever intended that the entire 700 miles of double fence be built. It was a ruse to get amnesty passed in 2007.
Trump can now completely turn this deceitful act on all of them by merely changing his plans a bit and calling his border barrier the "Obama Wall."
