Stop the insanity - Save Coronado
Demand Sec. Kelly stop the monstrous, useless towers
Glenn Spencer -- Feb. 20
Stop the border camera towers now!
Construction has just started on eight border camera towers in and near the Coronado National Monument. After a careful review it is clear that these towers are useless --- they cannot do the job given to the Department of Homeland Security. What is that job? - To establish operational control of the border. Operational control is defined as the prevention of all unlawful entries into the United States. Not only can these cameras not stop unlawful entries, they cannot even see unlawful entries!
These cameras, costing in excess of $150 million, are surrounded by dense forests and deep monsoon washes. Not only that, they are being built at the very spot where the President has ordered a new "wall" be built! This is a complete waste of taxpayer money - and a blight on our national forests and monuments!
The Presidential executive order that calls for 'wall' construction invokes the Secure Fence Act of 2006. That act includes the Hutchinson amendment that says the Secretary of Homeland Security may chose not to install border infrastructure, including cameras, if it is "is not the most appropriate means to achieve and maintain operational control" of the border.
These cameras are not only not the most appropriate means of achieving operational control of the border, they are probably the least appropriate means of the doing the job
We must do everything we can to stop this insanity!
UPDATED 1:30 PM PST! Still don't believe Glenn? OK, if you aren't too lazy, watch this as he flies a drone and shows how blind border camera tower T3 really is.
