Montana Supreme Court denies petition in immigration case
The Montana Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking the release of a Mexican immigrant who had been in the Gallatin County jail, ruling that the issue was moot now that he is in the custody of federal immigration authorities. -- However, justices declined to rule on the overarching argument about whether or not the use of immigration detainers is legal in Montana. -- In a ruling issued Thursday afternoon, justices dismissed a petition asking for the release of 46-year-old Arturo Valerio-Gonzales, who had been in the Gallatin County jail for five months on a misdemeanor sexual assault charge...........

Border Patrol Agent Hospitalized After Rock Attack      
A Border Patrol agent patrolling the border on an ATV was hospitalized after being assaulted with a large rock. The attack occurred a few miles east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry in a known human smuggling area. -- A Border Patrol agent assigned to the Chula Vista station sustained injuries after being “rocked” while patrolling along the border just north of Libertad Colonia, Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Olmos confirmed to Breitbart Texas on Sunday. For the second time, a federal appellate court has refused to intercede in proceedings against the Trump administration's wind-down of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals immigration program. -- On Wednesday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit joined its sister circuit in California in refusing to grant the government's mandamus petition. Government lawyers had argued before the panel of Circuit Judges Barrington Parker, Gerard Lynch and Christopher Droney that the district court orders by U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the Eastern District of New York to provide more documentation connected to the decision-making process around DACA overstepped the court's authority.......

Congressional Hispanic Caucus members marched over to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's office Thursday demanding their colleagues across the Capitol vote against the short-term spending bill because it doesn't include a fix for undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. -- The caucus voted unanimously to walk over to Schumer's office. Chairwoman Michelle Lujan Grisham, D-N.M., said Schumer should be whipping Senate Democrats to vote against the continuing resolution to fund the government until Jan. 19.......

Mexico has this year registered its highest murder total since modern records began, according to official data, dealing a fresh blow to President Enrique Pena Nieto's pledge to get gang violence under control with presidential elections due in 2018. -- A total of 23,101 murder investigations were opened in the first 11 months of this year, surpassing the 22,409 registered in the whole of 2011, figures published on Friday night by the interior ministry showed.
